  • 7 Upcoming Disney Live Adaptations to Watch Out For
  • We can’t deny the fact that Disney played a big role in our lives. Those who grew up watching their classic animated films know just how nostalgic it is to rewatch everything—and Disney knows it too.

That’s why they’re bringing all our beloved tales back on screen, and this time they’re making it come to life. Literally.

Here are some of the upcoming Disney live-action films set to take over the theaters over the next few months:

    The Lion King
    Premieres July 17, 2019

If you still haven’t gotten over the events of Lion King (it has been more than a decade, but it still hurts), then you shouldn’t miss out on the CGI remake of the classic tale. The 2019 adaptation is also star-studded, with well-loved characters voiced by some of this generation’s most talented artists.

    Maleficent: Mistress of Evil
    Premieres October 18, 2019

The much-awaited sequel to the story of one of Disney’s most-loved “villains” takes over the movie theaters on October 18. Said movie takes place a few years after the first and focuses on the complex relationship between Maleficent and Aurora as they face new challenges and create new allies.

    Lady and the Tramp
    2019

The romantic tale of two dogs from different worlds will have a live-action form this year. In the first set of photos that circulated online, it looked like the production team used actual dogs and CGI to retell the 1955 classic. It will be available for streaming via Disney+, the popular studio’s soon-to-launch online streaming site.

    Mulan
    Premieres March 2020

Mulan follows the story of a girl who disguises himself as a man to participate in the ongoing war—in place of his father. The live adaptation has raised a lot of questions even before its official teaser was released due to script changes and non-appearance of some loved characters.

    The Little Mermaid
    To be announced

The retelling of The Little Mermaid has also been in the spotlight since the announcement of Halle Bailey playing as Ariel. No release date has been set for the romantic mermaid movie yet, but the rest of the casting is already in the works.

    Cruella
    To be announced

Seems like Disney is set to shed some light on the life stories of villains. Cruella de Vil, who appears on the famed movie 101 Dalmatians, is also getting a live adaptation. Although there are no final decisions yet, Emma Stone is rumored to bring the fashion-obsessed antagonist to life.

    Snow White
    To be announced

The premiere of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937 marks the debut of the Disney productions we know of today. So, it is only fitting that they are in the works of creating a live adaptation to the first Disney princess film. But details on production have not been made to-date yet.

Which of these adaptations are you most excited to see? We’d love to hear in the comments below!
