MMDA Implements New 60-kph Speed Limit on EDSA and Other Major Roads
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be implementing the 60 kilometers per hour (kph) speed limit on major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.
EDSA
Under the MMDA Regulation No. 19-001 published in newspapers on Thursday, April 4, the MMDA will start apprehending motorists except trucks and buses driving beyond 60-kph on the following circumferential and radial roads:
Circumferential Roads
- Recto Avenue
- Pres. Quirino Avenue
- Araneta Avenue
- EDSA
- CP Garcia Avenue
- Southeast Metro Manila Expressway
Radial Roads
- Roxas Boulevard
- Taft Avenue
- SLEX
- Shaw Boulevard
- Ortigas Avenue
- Magsaysay Boulevard /Aurora Boulevard
- Quezon Avenue/ Commonwealth Avenue
- A Bonifacio Avenue
- Rizal Avenue
- Del Pan/Marcos Highway/McArthur Highway
Violators will be fined Php 1,000 for each apprehension. MMDA has yet to set a definite date for its implementation as it still has to conduct an information drive on the policy.
The speed limit for trucks and buses remains at 50-kph.

In the announcement, MMDA attributed vehicular accidents to overspeeding. MMDA reported 110,025 crash incidents happened in Metro Manila last year or about 299 incidents daily.
Department of Health (DOH) Calabarzon revealed the MMDA data showing the top three cities with the highest number of road crash cases, such as Quezon City with 35,494; Makati with 11,425 and Manila with 11,315. Data is as of September 2018.
