  • Cebu Pacific Launches Flights to Island-Province of Marinduque
  • Airline carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) will begin servicing a Manila-Marinduque route starting April 1. Flights will be scheduled every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from the Manila Domestic Terminal (NAIA Terminal 4) to Gasan, Marinduque Airport.

CEB’s subsidiary, Cebgo, will use its fleet of brand-new ATR aircraft.

According to CEB, the Manila-Marinduque flight would only take about an hour. Currently, travel from Manila to Marinduque includes a four-hour land trip and a three to four-hour ferry ride to the island-province.

“We are excited to begin operations in one of the most beautiful islands in the Philippines–Marinduque,” said Alexander Lao, President, and CEO of Cebgo, “Regular flights will allow business to prosper and the island’s tourism sector to boom.”

As an island, the province is also popular as a vacation destination for its beaches like this in Ihatub, Boac, Marinduque/IMAGE Wikicommons

Marinduque is part of the MIMAROPA region in the south of Luzon. The island-province is known to be one of the most peaceful provinces in the country for its low crime rate statistics.

Moriones, one of the oldest religious festivals of the country, is celebrated during the Lenten season. Moriones is a 200-year-old tradition where people dressed as “Moryons” parade on the streets.

The Moriones parade reenacts the walk Jesus Crist goes through before the crucifixion.

“It was a long and tedious process to bring about this route… we look forward to partnering with Cebu Pacific and other stakeholders as we strive for progress in Marinduque through sustainable tourism,” said Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Jay Velasco.
