  • MRT-3 Rehabilitation Begins January
  • The 43-month rehabilitation work on the Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) will start at the end of this month under the management of Japanese consortium Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Corp., the train’s original maintenance provider since 1993.

Said rehabilitation will utilize the Php 18 billion loan from the Japanese government beginning with the MRT-3 fleet comprised of 72 light rail vehicles (LRV).

15 trains will remain operational to avoid inconvenience, but the numbers will increase as the rehabilitation reaches the 26-month overhaul.

What will be left of the project period is dedicated to periodic maintenance and rehabilitation. Restoration and overhaul of the MRT-3 power supply, catenary system, signaling system, tracks, CCTV, and public address systems will also be done during this period.
