  • Safety Hacks You Should Know When Traveling
  • Traveling is a fun activity and there is nothing more exciting than going on a vacation to relax away from home. But it is also important to keep your safety in mind, especially if you are going out of town or out of the country.

Whether you are traveling alone or with your family and friends, these safety hacks will help you survive your travels.

    Use trusted travel phone applications

There are a lot of trusted travel and navigation applications available both for iOS and Android. Keeping a travel planner like Google Trips can help you plan and organize your travel itinerary, while apps like Airbnb, Trivago, and Agoda, can aid you through your accommodations by providing a variety of hotel choices. Airlines also have their own flight booking apps so it wouldn’t be a hassle to book local and international flights.

For navigation purposes, use either Google Maps or Waze to guide you through places and provide you with directions to your destination. You can also install ride-hailing apps such as Grab to take you to places you want to visit. Duolingo and Google Translate can come in handy when you’re traveling in a foreign country.

Detecting two-way mirrors in public places

During travels, we encounter mirrors in almost every place we visit—from bathrooms of hotel rooms to the changing rooms of malls. However, there are cases wherein public places, especially in female changing rooms, are installed with two-way mirrors.

A two-way mirror is not like the ordinary glass mirror. It is a semi-transparent mirror traditionally used for privacy, security, and surveillance purposes. A wise idea to protect yourself from two-way mirrors is to conduct a fingernail test.

Place the tip of your finger on the surface of the mirror and check if there is a gap between your fingernail and its reflection. If so, then it is a standard mirror but when the reflection of your fingernail touches itself, it is likely to be a two-way glass.

Split up your cash in different places

Refrain from putting all your money in one place. An ultimate travel hack every traveler should know is to separate your money into different places. It is better to hide them in several separate locations such as your wallet, jean pockets, and your bag to avoid getting all your money robbed while out of town.

You may also use a dummy wallet for your small bills and coins. If possible, just bring the exact amount of money you need for a day trip and leave the rest in your hotel safe.

    Prepare an emergency kit

In preparing an emergency travel kit, it should contain all necessary supplies needed in case an accident happens while you are on a trip. Health supplies such as prescribed medicines, first aid kits, and vitamins are essential when traveling. For those who will spend a lot of time under the sun, it is best to pack a sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun.

    Let someone know your whereabouts

Have a family member or friend know about your location. Update them of your whereabouts like the address of the hotel you are staying at and the places you last visited. It would not only make you feel safer, but it will also make it easier for them to locate you just in case an emergency happens.
