A few years ago, the MMDA also laid out 17 Mabuhay or Christmas Lanes in preparation for the Christmas season. These lanes are secondary roads which private vehicles can use in order to avoid the heavily congested EDSA.

As much as motorists welcome the idea of these lanes, there are others who will be a nuisance by illegally parking along them. To counter this, the MMDA has decided that beginning August 31, 2018, illegally parked vehicles along the Mabuhay Lanes will be fined.
Violators could be charged with at least 3 parking citations, each with a corresponding penalty: Php 200 for violation of illegal parking rule, Php 150 for the disregard of traffic signs, and Php 150 for obstruction.

In an effort to curb corruption and illegal towing activities, towing services will not be used along the Mabuhay Lanes but on inner roads at the request of local government units within Metro Manila.

According to MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia, this is the agency’s response to stubborn vehicle owners who insist on using the road as their personal parking lot.
