  • Two holidays will be recognized on August 21, 2018 following a recent proclamation from Malacañang.

    August 21 was declared a regular holiday to celebrate Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice, one of two great feasts of Islam, under Proclamation No. 556, signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on August 15. According to the proclamation, it was the National Council on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) who recommended that August 21 be declared a national holiday in observance of the Feast of Sacrifice, the date of which is based on the Islamic lunar calendar.

    This has left some netizens scratching their heads as August 21 was already a special non-working holiday by virtue of Republic Act No. 9256, which signed by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Feb. 25, 2004.

    In lieu of the two holidays to be celebrated on August 21, the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) has issued guidelines on the computation of holiday pay for this rare occurrence. According to their official Facebook page, an employee who works on August 21, 2018 will be paid the equivalent of 260% of their daily wage plus twice their Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).
