  • Travelling, Now Safer With DOTr’s PUV Modernization Program
  • A big portion of people residing in the Philippines choose to ride public utility vehicles like buses,  vans, and jeepneys on their way to work, school, or home because doing so will be a lot cheaper, and convenient. However, in a recent survey done by the Ford Motor Company, 4 out of 10 commuters are not happy with their experience on the road.

In June 2017, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) launched its ‘PUV Modernization Program’ which should aid several problems that today’s commuters have.

The safety of the commuters will be at the top of the said program’s priority. The latest design of vehicles produced by the DOTr will be equipped with GPS trackers and CCTV cameras to watch over the drivers and passengers. Safety officers will also be assigned to monitor the speed limit of the new PUV models—these officers will be assigned all over the Metro.

    Benefits To Expats

With the DOTr’s innovative take on providing public comfort and safety, expatriates can now roam around the Philippines and experience its culture without having to think of their safety on the road. The latest installments brought by the PUV Modernization Program will be able to secure the safety of the passengers, letting tourists explore more of Philippine culture.

Where WIll The Old PUVs Be

According to the DOTr, the old versions of public transportation will not be dumped. Existing franchises may still continue to operate, and are given the discretion to operate for 2 to 3 more years, or apply to operate in new or modified routes.
