The Maldives is a tropical nation in the Indian Ocean made up of coral islands and is best known for its beaches, blue lagoons, and extensive reefs. According to their tourism website, the nation has no counterpart in the entire world in terms of its unique geography and topography. Proud of its magical and breathtaking displays of sunshine, Maldives enjoys a dry and wet season, the former complimented with cooling sea breezes and periodic rain.

After the agreement signed on Tuesday, direct flights to Maldives and back will be available. Initially, the deal will allow 1,200 seats from designated airlines per week between Manila and Maldives. However, in line with Philippine’s pocket open skies policy, flights originating from or destined for points outside Manila will be unlimited to better promote other international gateways away from the capital.

DOTr did not announce when the agreement would take effect.

While the Philippines is also an archipelago, the Republic of Maldives offers a more intimate experience with the sea as the whole country is made up of atolls, ring-shaped reef, island, or chain of islands formed of coral. Divers, swimmers, and beach lovers will surely enjoy this new destination soon to be available in the country.
