Maginhawa’s Must-Visit Restaurants This Season
It’s incredible how a long stretch of residential street like Maginhawa has gotten filled to the brim with restaurants and cafes over the span of a few years. And yet, it seems to have never lost its little village charm. Finding good food on foot here is a recreation, not a daunting task.
Philippine Primer has walked the whole stretch of Maginhawa and—while you would think that it’s hard to stand out amid the myriad of restaurants—we found a lot of restaurants that are impressively unique in their own way.
Here are some restaurants that are worth your visit this weekend (and any other day).
Kazoku Restaurant
Kyoto Special
Whatever Japanese food you crave for right now, Kazoku Restaurant has it. A one-stop shop for any kind of Japanese food cravings, Kazoku has a smorgasbord of various eats from sashimi, sushi, and maki to Japanese rice bowls and noodles. Their Kyoto Special, a curious combination of okonomiyaki, udon, and rice, is an original creation of the restaurant’s owners and definitely a must-try.

Hapag Heritage Cuisine
Sinigang na Salmon sa Miso (Norwegian salmon in sour soup with miso)
On days you just want to feel the coddling of dear lola (grandma) again, go home to Hapag Heritage Cuisine where they serve comforting home-cooked Filipino dishes that will surely remind you of mom and grandma. All their dishes are delicately prepared, cooked and served fresh off the kitchen. Their Sinigang na Salmon sa Miso will tickle your taste buds with its delightful blend of sourness and mild bitterness.

Oh Umi Maki

After going on a brief hiatus for revamping, the cafe is now open again to cater to art enthusiasts and hungry souls with newly painted walls and new menu offerings. Their Grilled Chicken Pesto, a healthily satisfying meal prepared in-house from the pesto sauce to the tasty chicken bites, is a classic on their menu.

Skunk #20 Cafe
Skunk’s Sizzling Sisig
