  • Waze adds Filipino language in voice command feature
  • Traffic and navigation mobile application Waze is upgrading by adding Filipino-friendly features like voice commands which can recognize Filipino language.

These feature upgrades aim to help the local motorists to comply with the country’s Republic Act 10913 or the Anti-Distracted Driving Act which will take place on July 6. This means drivers who use the application will no longer need to touch their phones to navigate the app while driving.

“We had some discussions with our amazing Waze community across the Philippines and we decided that Filipino will be the most useful for all drivers across the Philippines,” Waze Asia Pacific Regional Lead Mona Weng said in an interview with CNN.

“While English has always been readily available, we have heard from the community that they would like to have the option to have a Tagalog or Filipino voice. I know that some of the people I talk to said the voice command doesn’t work well with their accent so if we have Filipino available, that no longer becomes an issue,” she added.

Waze is said to be the world’s largest community based traffic and navigation app. The voice command and Filipino language feature is expected to be released in the middle of July.
