  • FDCP partners with SM to screen indie films throughout the year
  • The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) signed with SM Lifestyle Entertainment Inc. (SMLEI) for a three-year partnership to promote independently-produced Filipino films. This was following the success of the revamped Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) held last December.

According to the agreement, SM Cinemas will be providing 8 theaters nationwide which will be screening indie films all year round. Branches which will be participating in the said agreement are the following: SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, SM Fairview, SM Iloilo, SM Cebu, SM Bacoor, and SM Mall of Asia.

FDCP Chairman and CEO Liza Dino-Seguerra, in a statement, said that there is a need to support Filipino filmmakers by giving them more exposure, and this move will give them just that. “This partnership with SM will not only fulfil our continuous pursuit of developing the audience into watching a variety of films but it will also give the independent producers a platform to learn how to market, to promote, and to distribute their films to [a] wider audience,” she said.

SMLEI President Edgar Tejerero also showed his support to this, saying that this is their way of showing their support for the local talents and what it can do to local cinema. “This is our way of helping [independent filmmakers] show their films to a wider audience because we believe in their talent and the work that they do for the local movie industry,” Tejerero stated.

The said cinemas will be screening Filipino independent films by the first half of the year.
