Australian Embassy Journalists Reception 2017
In line with the Embassy’s annual celebration of Australia Day, a media briefing was held on January 24 at the Ambassador’s Residence, North Forbes Park, Makati.
This year marks 71 years of diplomatic relations between Philippines and Australia. More than a celebration, the 71st Anniversary is also a reflection on the journey that the Philippines and Australia have shared over the past years. Formal relations between the two countries were established when Australia opened a Consulate General in Manila on 22 May 1946.
Headed by Ms. Elodie Journet, Senior Trade Commissioner and Counsellor, a business briefing occurred with some Australian businesses operators in the Philippines.
Australian Ambassador Amanda Gorely also gave her words and remarks. She also discussed some of Australian Embassy’s economic and business and trade plans with the Philippine for this year. This was followed by a question and answer with the media.
Amanda Gorely also exclaimed how she finds most places in the Philippines; she mentioned Iloilo as one of her favorite places in the Philippines so far.
“I’ve travelled to quite a few places and I’m really impressed by how diverse the country is, how beautiful most places we’ve visited. One place that we really enjoyed going to was Iloilo City. I felt that that was a place that had really invested a lot of money and energy into the development of the City. The river was a beautiful, clean waterway with great bridges and promenades along the outside.”
The Australian Embassy is currently hosting some events as part of their 71st Year. Check out their Facebook page for details.
