PETA celebrates 50th anniversary with line up of events this 2017
The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), this year, will celebrate its golden anniversary of providing original Filipino productions and educational theater programs for 50 years since 1967.
To commemorate PETA’s remarkable journey, a line-up of productions and workshops this 2017 are prepared and made available for audience to witness a range of cultural works brought by men and women who have taken PETA to this momentous anniversary.
According to PETA President Cecilia B. Garrucho, “truly PETA has been the collective endeavor and creative work of several generations of Filipino artists.”
She added that now is the time to gather together so the torch can be passed on to a new generation of young leaders, artists and cultural workers, who must use the power of theater to shine the light especially in these dark challenging times.
PETA was established on April 7, 1967 by Cecile Guidote-Alvarez with the vision of a Philippine Theater engaged in the development of people and society. It was also hailed as UNESCO-ITI (International Theater Institute) Center in the Philippines in 1971.
