  • Filipino horror flick goes international
  • It has been 16 years since Ang Babaeng Putik (Woman of Mud) was released in Philippine theaters. If you’re a horror movie fan in America or Canada, you can relieve Rico Maria Ilarde’s horror film through Shudder.com.

Tidepoint Pictures, through its founder Tetsuki Ijichi, acquired the film’s North American rights who then sold it to Shudder.com, a horror streaming service under AMC, the same network responsible for hit TV series The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, and Breaking Bad.

“Shudder’s movie slate is curated by Colin Geddes, regarded as a rock star among genre programmers. Geddes programmed the Toronto fest’s Midnight Madness and Vanguard sections for several years,” Ilarde said in an interview with Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Tetsuki Ijichi said in an interview with Philippine Daily Inquirer that curators and programmers find “many horror films from Southeast Asia to be limiting, in terms of cinematic language and setting. Rico’s film, however, can appeal to worldwide horror audiences.”

Ang Babaeng Putik tells the story of a mysterious woman who turns into a mud monster. It stars Klaudia Koronel, Carlos Morales, and John Arcilla, known for his role as Antonio Luna in the movie Heneral Luna.

Shudder is currently not available in the Philippines.
