In an advisory posted by the Department of Transportation (DOTr), they announced that the validity of driver’s licenses have now been extended to 5 years. License fees, on the other hand, were increased.

Roll-out for the extended validity of driver’s licenses will be staggered across the country. It started on October 10 for those who applied at the Licensing Center, the Licensing Renewal Section, and the Land Transportation (LTO) Central Office in Quezon City.

All licensing centers at the LTO Compound in East Avenue, Quezon City were also allowed to issue licenses that are valid for 5 years on October 10. The rest of NCR followed this Monday, October 17.

Licenses in the regions will follow in November, starting with licensing centers in Regions 3, 4, 7, and 11 on November 2. Regions 1, 2, 6, 10, and 12 will follow suit on November 7, followed by Regions 5, 8, 9, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and the CARAGA Administrative Region on November 14.

Anyone who applies for a driver’s license, new or for renewal, will be valid for five years if it is processed on or after the dates mentioned. Any licenses processed prior to the dates mentioned will still be valid for three years.

The new fees and charges for driver’s and conductor’s licenses are as follows:

    For new licenses

    • Application fee: P100
    • Computer fee: P67.63
    • License fee: P585
    • Computer fee: P67.63

    For renewals

    • License fee: P585

Extending the validity of driver’s licenses was one of the plans laid out by President Duterte during his first State of the Nation Address, all in an effort to lessen queues and crack down on red tape amid backlogs at the DOTr, with some going back as far as 2015.
