It’s a sad day in Hogwarts today as the celebrated actor, who played the iconic role of Professor Severus Snape in the successful Harry Potter series, died last January 14, 2016.
Alan Rickman, who has been known as one of the world’s greatest actors of all time passed away due to cancer. He was surrounded by his family and friends.
Co-workers of Rickman in all his shows, including the Harry Potter series, have expressed their sorrow with losing a great friend and mentor.
Author of Harry Potter books’ J.K. Rowling said in her Twitter account that “There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man.”
In a Google Plus post by Daniel Radcliffe, he said “Working with him at such a formative age was incredibly important and I will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career.”
Aside from the Harry Potter series, Rickman also played several unforgettable roles both on stage and on screen. He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company which performed classical theatre productions. Also, he starred in notable movies such as Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Harry in Love Actually, and Judge Turpin in the critically acclaimed Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
He was also awarded a Golden Globe, Emmy, and Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny.
With all his unforgettable roles in his career, Rickman will surely be missed by his millions of fans across the globe.
Farewell, Professor Snape. You will forever be remembered. Always.
