  • Tucked away along Aguirre Avenue inside BF Homes Paranaque lies a restaurant called Bamba Bistro. This well-raved gourmet place in the South is owned by the very talented young chef, Ms. Christina ‘Tina’ Legarda. The name of Bamba Bistro came from the song La Bamba which her father used to play when she was young to comfort her whenever she was sad. (Singing it in my head now, “la, la, la, la bamba…”)

Bamba Bistro is a combination of gourmet comfort food and modern bistro. It is a well-designed restaurant with fresh interiors, cozy couch, and a family vibe once you enter. The restaurant is divided into two sections: the main restaurant and the small confiteria that serves homemade pastries, cakes, cookies, and coffee.

Growing up in a family who loves to cook, Chef Tina caught the culinary bug early on and opened her first restaurant in July 2013. Before that, Chef Tina also worked under the some famous names in the culinary world like Chef Jessie Sincioco, Billy King, and Mario Batali.

Her recipes are a reinvention of the family’s favourite. The menu consists of the food on which she grew up on but with a diverse and playful approach on it. It can be a bit overwhelming on the first visit since the foods are eclectic, but easy to be familiar with, seeing as the menu is simple. She loves to create new dishes and sometimes to change the menu but retains the bestsellers. Don’t forget to ask for the specials.

Primer Magazine features salads in its September issue. Here are our favorites from Bamba Bistro:

    Bistro Salad P390

As soon as the salads hit the table, one cannot miss its sophisticated presentation. Bistro St. Salad’s combination of the crispy fried string onions, sweet balsamic cream, and blue cheese and grilled tenderloin claimed to be the best seller among the lot.

    Sunday Salad P240

We also recommend the Sunday Salad, a simple and great dish for those who are looking for a light meal.

    T.A.S. (That Awesome Salad) P495

That Awesome Salad or T.A.S. is for the seafood lovers out there. If you want your healthy greens, prawns, smoked salmon and fig puree together, then this is the choice for you.

These salads will sure make you sing ‘La Bamba’ in every bite. The servings are huge and actually big enough to be shared by two.
